June 2014 Ipsy

I got my first official Ipsy bag. It came wrapped in a gorgeous metallic pink bag. I did not save the packaging. I knew it was my Ipsy bag right away.

The theme for this month is Pretty in Paradise.

The bag was designed by Rebecca Minkoff for Ipsy. I have heard of Rebecca Minkoff but I have never bought anything from her. The bag was one of my favorite things about my Ipsy this month. I think it is great for summer and I will defiantly be reusing this bag.

One of the first items I saw was a NYX butter gloss. It is in Eclair. I am super excited about this product because I have heard so much about NYX and their butter glosses. This shade is a really light and beautiful shade of pink. It smells super good as well. It smells very sweet like a yummy dessert. It also moisturizers my lips.

The next thing I saw was a real tree for her perfume sample. I haven't worn it out yet but I did spray it. Does a very floral smell and is a strong perfume.  I really like it. I know some people said that it was too strong for them. I haven't tried wearing it out all day so I don't know how long the scent lasts.  The full size is $20 dollars which I think is very reasonable for a perfume.

I got a shimmer eyeliner from Nicka K New York in Blue. I think this is a beautiful shimmer color. I am very pleased I got this eyeliner in blue. I haven't worn it out yet but I've heard it is long lasting. Some people say it almost lasts too well and is hard to take off. I will try to post a review once I wear this if anyone is interested.

Two products I was not super happy about getting was the Carol's Daughter Sacred Tiare styling cream. First of all my hair is very thin and it is labeled to help combat frizz. Second of all I never blowdry my hair I only let it air dry. Plus, this tube is really small and I would probably have to use the whole tube or at least more then half to cover my hair.

The second item was the Ofra Eyebrow pencil in brown. It says it is universal but when is swatched it, it looks like a light brown. I have light brown hair but my eyebrows are almost black. So this is not really a universal color. Plus, I very seldom if at all wear anything on my eyebrows.

Overall, I did like the bag. I think getting three out of five products I will use and like makes the bag worth it. Plus the bag itself from Rebecca Minkoff is gorgeous. In the future I hope I get more products I can actually use. This bag was still worth paying $10 Dollars and getting some great new products.

*discaimer: this bag does contain an affiliate link. If you click on the link and decide to sign up for Ipsy I get points to go towards getting a product from Ipsy. This is not a sponsored post. I purchased the bag with my own money. All opinions are my own.*

Fun with the cats

Here are some photos of my kitties from this past week. I don't know if it was the nice weather but they seemed a lot more playful and silly this week.

Harley rose was using her scratch pad. It is her favorite one and she ended up getting stuck. I helped her down but it was so silly I had to take a picture first. She was only on there for a few seconds.

I did some digital editing and put glasses and a bow tie on Ollie. He is already cute but this adds to it. He looks like such a smarty pants.

Lucky was falling asleep. His new thing is to share half my pillow with me. He did have his own pillow but it was getting old. But, I think I should buy him a new one. He does not like cat beds he loves to cuddle with me. He even knows what bedtime is when I say it is time for bed. He looks at me and then runs upstairs right to bed.

video

Lucky purring before going to bed. He was so sleepy he could barely keep his eyes open. He also has a hiccup in the video if you watch closely. Not too long after this he was asleep and snoring. But, I didn't get a video. Maybe that will be something for the future. Sorry for the video quality it was dark.

Accepting the Small Things

Happy father's day today. I doubt many men will be reading this blog but I hope to all the ladies who read this today that you have a wonderful day with your dads.

My Father died when I was three years old. I never really knew him. I think I remember him but I can't honestly be sure. I have a vague memory it is blurry. It might be him but it could also be someone else. I looked at his picture today. I almost forgot what he looked like.

I'm sure he would have been a good father and done his best like all or most father's try to do. He had all girls. My half sisters. I am younger then them so they really got to know him.

My mom was basically a single mother. She met my Godfather who was really like my dad.

He raised me. He taught me a lot of things. He loved me unconditionally. He soothed me when I had a nightmare. He never had children of his own so really I was his daughter in all the ways that mattered.

Maybe not by blood but I've learned there is more to a relationship and family then being related to someone by sharing the same DNA. Unfortunately, he passed away around Father's day when I was 18 years old. But, I got to spend 15 years with him.

Today I will be remembering both my fathers.

After I lost my godfather it was a very depressing time for me. We had to move suddenly. We moved from Chicago to where we live now. I had a hard few years. You never really get over the loss of a loved one. And it is still hard on holidays.

But, it also made me realize that there is so much beauty in even the small moments. Sometimes we are so busy we forget to take the time to look for the small things.

Today, I was playing with my cats chasing them around the house. It is these moments that can be small but also precious.

Sipping on a hot cup of coffee or tea. It can be so simple but such a delight.

It is also about having gratitude and accepting the things people have to offer us. I've always been miss independent and never really relied on other people. Even when people where being genuine it was hard for me to accept kindness. Even accepting a dollar coffee from someone was a struggle. I still do not like accepting things but when I realize it comes from a genuine place it makes it easier.

Today I am grateful for the small things in my life. I am grateful for the gifts I am given from others not just on a physical level but also advice, time, and kindness. Sometimes we don't realize how one kind word or action can really brighten up someone's day and make it that much better. I have come across these people in my life. They are like my angels. And I am so grateful for them. It also has made me pay it forward and try to live this way towards others. Lending someone a shoulder to talk to. Sending someone a nice note to say thank you for taking the time to do the small things. Things that people do not have to do but do because they genuinely want to help. These are mini miracles.

Today I feel a mixture of sadness but I also feel so blessed.

June BirchBox Unboxing and May Updates

I am so excited because I got my June Birchbox. This is my second Box. I signed up towards the middle of May and got my first box at the end of the month. So, I was surprised and happy to get my June box just a few weeks later. The theme for this month is Away We go. All about beauty products that you can take with you on vacation or anywhere you need a little freshening up. It also has products from across the world featured this month.

I got quite a few great products in my box. Most of them I had never heard of before but to me it is exciting because I get to try new things I would probably never buy on my own. Each month I fall in love with at least one product that I will be sure to buy.

One of the first products I got was a Coola Tinted Matte SPF 30 natural BB cream. I have already tried this product. I absolutely love it! This is my first BB cream I've ever tried. I wasn't sure I really needed it but it works wonders. I know I will be breaking down and buying the full size when I run out. It goes on very silky and almost feels like a powder then a cream. It covered all my flaws. I have very oily skin especially on my T-zone and it stayed matte the whole day. Even though I was hot it stayed put. At the end of the day you could tell a little wore off but my skin was not oily like it normally is. I did not even apply foundation over it since I was actually out of foundation. Plus, the cost of the full size bottle won't break the bank at $36.00.

Then I got Gilchrist and Soamers London Collection Body lotion. It smells very floral. I actually do enjoy the floral smells. I haven't tried it yet though since I've still got my shea Butter I got as a sample last month.

This next item is the Joie Folle De Joie Eau De Parfum. I absolutely love this! it smells like a rose and is divine. However, I have decided to use it sparingly because the full size bottle is $98.00. If I do buy the full size bottle I would only use it for special occasions. But, I do think it is worth the money.

I also got the Number 4 Hair Hydrating Shampoo. I haven't tried this yet but I actually plan on using it today. I am a little skeptical because my hair can be very oily at times. On the other hand my hair is really brittle at the moment and I'm wondering if this will help put some volume back into it. So, I am eager to see how this shampoo works. It does not have a strong smell or a floral smell. To me is really just smells like soap. It kind of smells like my V8 shampoo but maybe a little stronger then that.

The last item is the Vasanti Cosmetics Brighten-up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator face scrub. This is probably the item I was least excited to get because I have sensitive skin and am a little worried how my skin will react to this. Although it is made with Micro crystals, Papaya, and Aloe. Aloe is very soothing to the skin so I hope it works well on my skin. I would not use this product very often. It kind of has a lavender smell to it. It is paraben and Sulfate Free and is 100% natural so I like that. If it had chemicals in it I would probably not even attempt to use it on my skin.

My Favorite products from my May box are Hello Perfume by Harvey Prince. This is a great summer scent because when you first put it on it has a citrus scent to it and as it wears off the under layer smells floral. I put it on and smelled like a lemon cake and then smelled like lavender as the day went on. This is a scent that can literally be worn everyday throughout the summer. I would wear it in the winter too although it smells more like a summer beach day type scent to me.

My next Favorite product is the Cynthia Rowley Eyeliner Crayon pencil in Black. It goes on thick which if you like a smokey eye it is perfect for that. I will also blend it in a little as well if I want an even more dramatic look. I was using a liquid eyeliner before this that worked well but this is my new favorite eyeliner. It reminds me of a mixture of going on like a pencil but still has a liquid feel to it. I want to try the blue and violet for the summer.

My third favorite product is the Perlier Shea Butter with sweet almond milk. It smells like almonds. It does contain sweet almond oil so if you have a nut allergy I am not sure I would wear this. This is another great light scent to wear for summer. When your skin is dry and you just want a lotion with a very light scent. Something you can wear to the pool or beach. I even put some on last night and since it is so light it did not bother me when I was sleeping like some scents do.

*This is not a sponsored post. I bought Birchbox with my own money. There is an affiliate link if you would like to sign up. I get points to go towards future purchases of the products. All opinions are my own.

Sunday Social: Taking Time for Yourself and Shopping

This Weeks Questions:

1. When do you take time for you?

I don't have any kids so I usually take time for myself when I get home from work and on the weekends. My favorite thing to do is watch a good movie and If I don't feel like cooking order in some food. I also love to paint my nails and change up the colors. It is always a fun and usually relaxing experience.

 2. What do you find to be your biggest weakness?

The fact that I am so shy. I always want talk to people but I am not great at starting the conversation. I usually expect or hope that others will talk to me first. Sometimes it happens sometimes not.

3. What is your biggest attribute?

I am a loyal friend. If anyone ever needs to talk to me I am always there to listen.

4. What is your favorite place to shop online?

I am loving ulta.com right now. They have a lot of brand name as well as drugstore beauty products. I'm about to have a haul there as soon as I save up some money because I am loving hot pink nail polish and lip gloss at the moment. I am also out of some other products I usually use.

 5. What is your favorite place to kill time?

I don't really have a favorite place to kill time at the moment. It would probably be the mall though. Because you can always window shop and kill a lot of time looking at books and clothing. I could spend quite a few hours in the bookstore.

That time the Sky Fell Down

It has been quite a week for me these past few days.

First, my phone broke. I had it for two years. I had nothing but issues with it from the day I got it. So, finally a piece broke in it. It is amazing how one small thing can break and the whole thing does not work. I actually think the piece was loose for a long time and finally came undone completely. Which, means I need a new phone. I am not too upset about it. It is actually more annoying then anything else. I hope to get a new phone sometime this week fingers crossed. I feel a bit naked without my phone. I am so used to having it with me and randomly checking my e-mails and looking things up on the internet. It has actually made me more aware of how connected to media I can be. It has been nice to take a step back. Since I haven't had my phone I feel like I am actually getting a lot more done. But, still it will be nice to have a phone again.

Then we had a really bad rain storm. And the basement flooded. This is nothing new and usually happens once or twice a year. But, this time it was really bad. My mom said it looked like a river in the basement. I wasn't home when it happened and by the time I got home the water was already down. But, it looks like a disaster and is going to be a pain in the butt to clean up.

But, the rain also caused my ceiling to crack in my bedroom. The water was leaking and it looked like a waterfall in my bedroom. Luckily, I put some buckets down. But, I seriously thought my ceiling might come crashing down. At least it is in the middle of the room. The cats were freaked out and were running past the water as fast as possible and looking at me like What the Hell!?

So, so far it seems to be okay. But, I'm still a little freaked out. I'm a bit paranoid if it rains again the ceiling is going to fall down on top of me.Well, at least we are moving in a few month's. Let's hope it doesn't fall down before then.

Sunday Social: Get to know me and my blog

1. Introduce yourself and your blog to us:

My name is Christina. I am 27 year's old. I started this blog in April after taking a 3 year blogging break. I started this blog to have my own space to write about my life and basically anything that I want to talk about. I love writing about my fur babies. I am back on a fitness journey after dealing with illness. I am excited to see where this blog will take me. This is nothing like my old blog and it is a fresh start for me.

 2. What is your favorite form of Social Media and why?

I used to love Facebook but now there are so many Ads and you have to pay to promote your page. Twitter can be a bit redundant. I love instagram. I have to say that is probably my new favorite form of social media. I also really like tumblr although not as many people have one.

3. What made you start a blog?

I love writing. I had a blog that I started back in 2009. I mostly wanted an outlet to write to talk about my life and what was going on at the time. I did some reviews. But, after a while is just felt redundant. Then my grandma passed away, I had a break up, and was also dealing with illness. I decided to take a break from blogging which lasted three years. I decided to start this blog to just have fun and write about the happy times in my life. I have changed A LOT these last three years and I want my new blog to reflect that.

 4. What do you feel the most meaningful/special post you’ve written is?

My favorite post is about my Ollie. I wrote it May 1st for his Birthday.

Signs and Crossroads about following your dreams and heart and reading the signs

Blessed to have my mom because she is one special lady and has gone through a lot this year
