Weekend Recap

This was an unusually long week for me. But, I thought I would share a recap of my weekend and a few things from my week as well.

Tuesday I decided to make some Gluten-Free chocolate chip cookies. It was my first time making them and they came out tasting really good. The one trick I learned was they need to cool a little bit longer then baking regular chocolate chip cookies. If you try to eat them too soon they will fall apart. However, if you like gooey cookies then they are perfect for eating right out of the oven. I actually like my cookies both ways.

Over the weekend I went out with my aunt and uncle for my uncles birthday. I didn't get any pictures. We went to a German restaurant.    I got a chicken Cordon Bleu. It was really yummy! And an apple pie with cinnamon ice cream for dessert. We ended up having a really good conversation. I was glad we got there early before it was busy. We sat in a little corner booth. We ended up staying till late but luckily the corner were we sat never got too busy.

On Saturday We ended up getting a bee in the store. I was eating Lunch and it started flying around me. I hate bee's. I got stung once as a little kid. And recently my mom got stung by a bee. So, I was pretty much flipping out.

After Lunch My aunt said to go to the bar and get a shot glass of beer. I work right next to a bar. And everyone pretty much knows me. I felt a little awkward.

I went to the bar and asked the bartender who luckily I know for a shot glass of beer. I thought he would look at me oddly but luckily he didn't. He got the glass and I told him it was to try to catch a bee. He said "a bee?" I nodded. "Here is a sweet beer." I didn't even know they made a sweet beer.

Of Course, By the time I get back to the store the bee is hiding somewhere.

It finally came out and we killed it. But, alas the beer was never needed.

We've also been looking for apartments this week. Who would have thought it would be so hard to try to find an apartment.

On Saturday Night I was way too tired to cook. Plus, I had been driving around looking for apartments for rent with my aunt. So, I ended up ordering a pizza and watching the Beyonce and Jay Z HBO special. It was amazing!

Love With Food September 2014

*Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links

Love With Food is a monthly subscription box that sends organic, natural, and gluten-free foods. They have three different options: The regular tasting box for $12 dollars a month, the Deluxe box for $25 dollars and the Gluten-free box for $25 dollars.

This month's Theme was Spice up your life. I love spices and foods with a little bit of a kick. I am not a huge fan of foods that are super spicy or salty. This box was probably not my favorite but I still enjoyed this box. And I got use out of most of the items in the box.

Simply So Sweet Chili Tortilla Chips
By Way Better Snacks:
At first I was afraid these would be too spicy for me. But, they were not. They had just enough of a kick but did not kill my taste buds like some spicy foods can do. They didn't taste super salty either which I also do not like in some snacks like popcorn and chips. I can see myself purchasing these in the future.

Lemon Rosemary Seasoning
By Fogg City Spice Co.:
I haven't tried the seasoning yet. I do have some chicken that needs to be cooked so I will use it with that. Seasoning is always a good way to dress up any dish and add some more flavoring. But, I am not a huge spice person when it comes to cooking. So, I'll have to see how this works out.

Hemp Rules Roasted Hemp Seeds
By Ziggy Marley Organics:
I haven't tried these yet. I don't think I've ever actually tried hemp seeds before. I was thinking I could add these to a salad to dress it up. I don't think I would want to eat them alone.

Green Superfood
By Amazing Grass:
I am a fan of the green drink. I do usually drink a green drink because even though they don't always taste so great they are loaded with health benefits. I joke that I usually get my greens from my drinks and my kale chips. I think this was okay. I mean it's healthy so it's not going to taste like a vanilla milkshake. But, I could see myself drinking this.

5 Spice Caramels
By Shotwell Candy Co:
This was probably my favorite thing in the box. I ate the caramels first and they were spicy enough but not hot spicy. They were absolutely delicious. I would buy these for myself or as a gift around the holidays.

Maruso Ghost Soy Sauce
By Maruso:
I haven't tried the soy sauce either. I promise I will update on the things that I haven't tried in my blog. It seems like it might be spicy but I plan on adding it to a stir fry.

Rich Chocolate Cookie Thins by Mandy's:
I loved these! At first I expected it to be like a regular cookie. But, they really are thins. I shared them with my mom and we both thought they were great. They definitely helped with the chocolate cravings.

Churro Kettle Corn By Love with Food:
I am not a huge popcorn fan. But, when I do eat popcorn it's kettle corn. I really liked they added cinnamon for sweetness. I didn't taste much salt which is good or not so good depending on how you look at it. If I enjoyed popcorn more I probably would have enjoyed this snack more.

Overall, it was a good box. Not my favorite. But, I will have to try the rest of the products and see how I like those.

Birchbox September 2014

* Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links

Birchbox is a monthly subscription box service that sends you 4-5 beauty samples every month for $10 dollars.

This month's theme was Fresh Paint. I actually really love the box this month. The pattern is very pretty and I can see myself actually keeping this box. I usually recycle the other boxes.

Now, some of the products I received this month.

PIXI
Shea Butter Lip Balm in Honey Nectar:
I really am enjoying this lip balm. It smells like honey and it is a nice neutral color. At first I was not too sure about the color because it is so neutral. But, it still gives my lips a hint of color. It lasted most of the day as well and really did help to hydrate my lips. This is something I can use during the day or at night before bed. I love the sweet honey smell as well. I also used it under lipstick and it worked well used like that too.

Yu-Be
Moisturizing Skin Cream:
This is a moisturizer from Japan. It is supposed to be a really well known and used product for the skin. Apparently it is popular for mountain climbers to use this. I actually can see why. I really wanted to like this product and I don't dislike the product. But, when I opened it, it smells and has the same consistency as Carmex. I don't dislike that smell or consistency but in my opinion it is better for the lips then the skin. I did apply it to my lips and it works great for that. However, I would probably purchase Carmex. Actually I already have some. For the skin it left a sticky residue. I will use this until it runs out but I can't see myself using this on my skin. I will just use it as a lip treatment. Probably before bed like I use my other lip balms. However, some people might enjoy the consistency of this product on their skin.

Tommy Girl
Tommy Girl Fragrance:
This is by no means a new fragrance. However, I was excited to get this sample because I have never tried this perfume before. I love floral fragrances. So, I really am enjoying this perfume. I love that it can be worn during the day and at night because it is not too heavy. The only thing about the sample is I wish it came in a spritz bottle instead. Every time I open the cap a little bit of the perfume spills out.

Liz Earle
Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit:
I had never heard of Liz Earle before. But, I was absolutely in love with the packaging. It came in a beautiful blue package that reminded me of something jewelry would be in. I also love that it is a two part system and came with it's own muslin cleansing cloth. I'm usually a little weary of trying new cleansers because I have sensitive skin. To my surprise this was actually really gentle. The muslin cloth did make my skin a little red but not as much as a washcloth does. It also removed my face makeup and a majority of my eye makeup. I love that it can be used to remove makeup as well. Since not all cleansers are made to do that. I can see myself using this everyday and I want to try more products from Liz Earle now.

Davines
Oi Conditioner:
Last month we could choose one product we wanted to get a sample of. I chose this conditioner because it is meant to help with tangles and used to protect and soften hair. It smells good. It has a floral scent but it is not overpowering. It is also Paraben Free. I haven't tried this product yet but it is a fairly generous sample. It also came with some foil packets. A shampoo and hair oil.

*I purchase this product myself and pay for it with my own money. If you decide to use my link to sign up I get points awarded to me which I can choose to use for future purchases. You don't have to use my link but I would appreciate if you chose to do so. All opinions are my own.

Ipsy September 2014

*Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links

For those of you who don't know Ipsy is a $10 a month subscription makeup bag. I love that Ipsy comes in a bag that I can keep the makeup in and reuse. Ipsy comes with 4-5 deluxe sample makeup and full size makeup products.

This month's theme was "Street Style." I love the theme and the bag this month. It is silver which is one of my favorite colors and I love the embellishments on the bag. I could see myself using this as a makeup bag or even use it out for the evening.

The first thing I saw when I opened the bag was
NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Innocent:
I knew I would be getting one of these eye shadow's from the website. I love NYX products so I am excited I received this. This is a more neutral color with shimmer. It is actually similar to a color that I received last month from J.Cat. It will get used but I had hoped for a purple or blue eye shadow instead. I did use it and it does leave a really pretty shimmer. I used it on my top lid. It lasted a long time as well and did not crease. Overall, I am really happy with this eye shadow.

Hikari Lipstick in Cabernet:
I love the packaging of this lipstick. It is really simple but elegant at the same time. I had never heard of this brand but I love trying new lipsticks. It is also a beautiful red shade. It did not make my teeth look yellow like some red's can do. It is a beautiful color for fall. The only thing is I hardly never ware red shade's of lipstick. Let's face it red is not really a daytime color. So, I don't know if I could ware it to work or not. But, hey since it's almost fall I could give it a try then. I don't know how much use I will get with this color but I do love it.

Pacifica Natural Minerals Eye pencil in Fringe:
I've been wanting to try a product from Pacifica. I have to say I was not too pleased with this product. It is supposed to be an eyeliner but it does not glide on like other eyeliners I've tried. It reminds me more of an eyebrow pencil in the way it applies. Also, it is in brown. I really wanted the silver color because I will get more use out of that. If I want a neutral eyeliner I go for black not brown. So, overall I'm not sure how much use this will get. However, it might work better as an eyebrow pencil.

Crown Brush C476 Crease/Shadow:
I know some people are not happy to receive tools in their ipsy bags. But I was pleased. I've been wanting to try a crease eye shadow brush for a while now. I really like this brush. The bristles are really soft yet they apply the shadow evenly and I only had to apply my shadow once to get the coverage I wanted. This brush is going to be a staple in applying my eye shadow. I used this brush when applying the NYX eye shadow.

Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Hair mask:
I'm not always super happy about reciving hair products in my Ipsy. I haven't tried this yet. I have really long hair ad I think this is a generous sample for people with short hair. But, my hair is pretty long so we will have to see how much this covers. However, it does say if you have oily hair to skip applying to the scalp and just apply to ends. So, that it probably what I will end up doing anyway. It has a nice smell. It reminds me of a coconut smell.

*I purchased my Ipsy bag with my own money. The opinions expressed are as always my own. If you sign up for Ipsy using my link I get points to go towards getting a free product in the future. As always you do not need to sign up using my link however, I would appreciate it.

I can only choose one #BlogEverydayinSeptember

Today I am linking up with Whitney and the prompt is one book, one movie, and one song you would have to read, watch, or listen to for the rest of your life.

This is a hard one because I love watching movies, reading, and listening to music. Those are actually my three favorite things to do.

But, if I could only read one book for the rest of my life it would probably be Eat, Pray, Love from Elizabeth Gilbert. I would rather read the book then watch the movie. This book inspires me when I'm feeling down emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to get back on my journey. Sometimes things happen in life and we get off track. This book reminds me that it is all about balance and it is never too late to get back on the journey to making your life better.

If I could only watch one movie. This is another really hard one for me because I love watching all the new movies that come out. But, I would have to say if I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life it would be The Notebook.

If I could only listen to one artist the rest of my life it would be Lana Del Rey. She is my girl and ever since I heard her songs I've been in love with her music. I love all her songs so much but if I could only pick one song it would probably be "Born to Die."

My Beauty Routine #BlogEverydayInSeptember

I actually really love this topic. For a long time I kind of ditched wearing makeup. I think it started because I had a flood and lost a lot of my makeup. I also lost a lot of nail polish. And let's face it sometimes a girl does not want to get up early just to apply her makeup. But, recently I started getting into wearing makeup again. Probably about three months ago. Now, I wonder why I ever stopped wearing it. Aside from having to wake up early to apply my makeup. Now, I feel naked if I leave home without eyeliner and a lipstick. I've been sick this week so I haven't really been into wearing makeup. But, yesterday I put some on again and sometimes I forget how good it makes me feel. I admit I like to wear a lot of makeup. I am not one of those girls that goes for the natural look. If I want the natural look I just don't wear makeup. I love dramatic eyes. I love bright pink lipsticks. I used to say "how can girls put so much on their face?" Well, that old saying is true don't judge a book by it's cover because now I find myself doing the exact same thing.

So, on to my makeup routine.

I start with my face first. This is the way I've always done my makeup. For me once my face is covered then I can move on. Plus, if I'm short on time at least my face is covered.

I start with a moisturizer. I used to never wear a moisturizer. I tend to have oily skin but some spots on my face are very dry. I find if I don't apply a moisturizer first then my makeup looks really cakey.  And you can see my dry patches. Especially on my nose. Now, that is the first thing I do. I also apply a moisturizer at night before I go to bed.

The second step is adding a primer/BB Cream. I used to never really get the benefits of doing this. But, boy does this make a difference. It helps to even out my skin. It also adds more moisture.  And allows my makeup to stick better to my skin so it lasts longer. If you haven't tried a primer or a BB cream I highly recommend it. Plus, it can also be used alone on days you don't want to add a foundation.

Then I finally apply my foundation. I don't usually use concealer. I just use the foundation to cover my face. The primer/BB kind of acts as a concealer anyway. So, I can pretty much eliminate that step.

Then I go on to my Eyes. My Eyes take the longest time of any part of my face. I love dramatic eyes. So, I have to take my time and be pretty precise. I like to start with a lighter or more neutral color. I use the lighter or neutral color for my top lip not the crease. However, sometimes I do apply it in the crease as well and then just go over that with the eyeshadow color I want in the crease.

Then I pick the eyeshadow I want in my crease. I love bold colors for my crease. Black, blue, and silver are my favorites. I also like to color coordinate with my outfit. does anyone else do that?

Then I put my eyeliner on last. I usually coordinate that with my crease color or I'll just go with black. If it smudges or I make a mistake I just go over it with the crease color.

Last but not least I add my Mascara. I used to never wear mascara or fake lashes. I still haven't mastered fake lashes and they bug me when I wear them. But, I love how dramatic my eyelashes look with mascara. I am not afraid of my mascara being thick or if it looks like I'm wearing mascara. Because I love dramatic eyes.

Then I go to my lips. I love Bright pink lipstick and purples. I'm lucky that I can pull these colors off because I know some people can't. If I'm having a bad day I just put on my bright pink or purple lips and I feel better.

Then I put my Bronzer on. This was another thing I used to wonder about but then I saw how it looked on so many other girls and that basically it was something they couldn't live without. Now, It's something I can't live without. It adds color to my pale face. I try to go for more pink undertones so it looks natural. Orange would not look good on my pale complexion. I like to put it on my forehead, cheeks as a highlight, my nose, and occasionally my chin. It does make my face look thinner. Even when I'm super skinny I still have a round face.
